Final Design: Mask

Pictured above is the mask we have decided to use for our antagonist, Temptress.
Although a variety of possible ideas for the mask were explored in this post, the final mask that we had decided to use did not satisfy the criteria that we had previously created.
The criteria we created as a group consisted of:

Design Specification
  • The mask should conceal the identity of the character who will be wearing it. It should cover up the majority of the face, or the entirety of the face.
  • The mask should be aesthetically pleasing and attractive, as in context this would be more appropriate. This is so that she can be perceived as attractive by people who are seeking her services.
  • The mask should have decorative features and should be highly ornate as these features would allow the mask to appear more feminine.
  • The mask should either use dark colours to reflect the dark nature of the Temptress, or light colours and white that are symbolic of purity and innocence which contrast the nature of the character.
  • Red should also be used on the mask as it is often associated with violence which correlates with the background of the character who will be wearing the mask

Our final mask did not meet our expectations entirely, however we have found it suitable for use. The design of the mask was very feminine and used the colours white and gold, which may be associated with ideas of purity which highly juxtaposes the nature of the character who will be wearing the mask. The mask is also ideal for concealing the identity by covering the upper half of the face, which was previously mentioned in the criteria for the mask design. However, a suitable portion of the face is covered, to allow the audience to see that the character has conventionally attractive features. As aforementioned, the design of the mask that we have decided to use is very feminine which is ideal and tailors to the portrayal of the main character. The serpentine curves of the glitter would immediately be associated with the idea of femininity. This also make the mask aesthetically pleasing and attractive. The white of the mask may cause members of the audience, upon first seeing the mask, to infer it as a representation of purity and innocence.
